Douglas E. Welch (http://douglasewelch.com) presents to the class Career Development – Theories and Techniques at Pepperdine Graduate School of Education & Psychology taught by fellow CareerCamp Co-Chair, Danielle Gruen

Transcript:

You really need to think about your career as something that you have. Something that is part of you. Something that comes from you, as well. There is a time to serve your own needs throughout your life and your career. So much of our time is spent pleasing others — our boss, our family, our spouse, our children, whatever. You have to equally balance that with what you want out of your live and your career, because, if you don’t, there are some very fundamental problems that will arise and you’ll suddenly be faced with something and not know how to deal with it. So, once you get all these external elements going — you’ve got the perfect resume. You’ve got the great interview suit agan. You’re all set. You’re out there doing interviews. Now the hard work starts. At least in my mind. And the hard work always involves thinking. Thinking deeply about what you want — or as I often say in other talks — your wants, needs and desires.
