The two biggest challenges are deciding what you want to do as a career and then building the career you deserve once you decide.

I discuss the Career Compass method of discovering your career wants, needs and desires and then using various social media tools to show people “What you do and how well you do it”

Here in Hollywood, especially, in the entertainment industry, we’re used to people doing stuff for us. If you’re and actor, you have an agent. You have a manager. You have a guy that takes your head shot. You have a person who maybe acts as your publicist. Everybody. The studio does stuff. Everybody does stuff for you. Well, even in the entertainment industry today, it’s not the case anymore. If you’re an upcoming actor, you’re an upcoming musician, you’re an upcoming writer looking for a publisher, it’s all on you. A publisher is only going to promote your book if you’re already famous. They’re not going to promote your book. They’re just not going to do it, because it’s not in their interest money-wise to do that. And it’s become more and more important for us to do a lot of what we need done for ourselves. Now, the great thing about that, though, is compared to when I was working back in the 90’s, you have so many more tools that make it easy and cheap — if not free — to do exactly that. Tell people what we do and how well we do it and we can do it every single day. We can do it multiple times every single day. We can tell people this so that opportunities come to us.
