A little bit of this and a little bit of nothing – End of the Day for February 3, 2014

End of the day LogoSometimes, you just don’t want to do anything. Motivation is a subtle beast and often decides to wander off into the meadow when it is supposed to be pulling the plows of productivity. Today was sort of like that. Sure, I go got through most of my usual stuff, but when it came time to buckle down and create some new stuff, motivation had decided the hay in the other field looked better.

It isn’t the end of the world, of course, but it can be a bit distressing when you really want to get something done, but you aren’t sure how to get started. You can try all the usual tricks, of course, including bribery, force, shouting, cajoling, begging, but usually time is the only cure. There is something on your mind, in your thoughts or in your body that is holding you back and you just need to get over it.

My biggest hurdle today was stress from other issues, I think. That can usually derail me pretty badly, but by evening I was starting to get back into the swing of things — at least enough to make sure this daily piece was written, posted and shared. I keep waiting for the first day when End of the Day doesn’t make it to the blog, but I think I enjoy it so much — and what it does for me — that I am probably good for a while. There is something to be said for sharing thoughts at the end of the day as a way to unburden your mind and lead you towards a good night’s sleep.

Tomorrow us another day, of course, as each one is. I will play a little catchup, but I have to be up early for school drop-off anyway, so that will give me a few more hours than I usually have. Given a fresh sunrise and a fresh start, I think everything will get moving again. Watch this space for further developments! (LAUGH)
