Event: All-day podcasting workshop at mLearnCon in San Diego, California

March 12th, 2010 Comments off

I will be presenting the workshop below during the mLearnCon Conference in San Diego, California.

Audio Podcasting A to Z for Mobile Learning

Monday June 14, 2010 08:30 AM
Douglas E. Welch, The WelchWrite Company, Inc.

Podcasting is the epitome of m-Learning in that education and training can be “pulled” to your audience at the time and place of their choosing. While many organizations could provide educational, training, and informational content via Podcast, the subject just seems too complex and outside the “comfort zone.”

This workshop will demystify the subject, and provide participants with clear direction and guidance that will allow them to go home and get started. You will get step-by-step instructions on the design, development, and delivery of an audio Podcast, and explore recording software, microphones, and headsets as well as other equipment.

In this session, you will learn:

A thorough understanding of the structure of a Podcast
The Podcasting design process
The Podcasting production process
The Podcasting delivery process
The Podcasting distribution process

Audience: Participants at all levels who have general computer knowledge and a willingness to be recorded.

Technologies Discussed in This Session: Delivery platforms include the Web, iPhone, iPod, and CD or other portable media device.

Interested in a gardening/nature/outdoors unconference?

March 8th, 2010 1 comment

IMG_0180My past experiences with unconferences like BarCampLA, PodCampAZ and my own CareerCampLA started me thinking about some sort of gardening/nature/outdoors unconfererence here in the Los Angeles area (or elsewhere). I am totally sold on the concept of unconferences and their ability to facilitate sharing the knowledge we all have with each other and the world.

For a gardening unconference, I could see presentations by attendees on their own special and specific interests like roses, vegetables, sub-irrigated planters, and a host of other topics. For a nature or outdoor conference, I would be interested in bringing in interested individuals as well as groups dedicated to endangered species, habitat preservation, hiking and more.

Any interest in an unconference like this here in the Los Angeles area? Leave your questions and comments on this blog post using the Comments like above or below this post.

Video: Saturday Science: Traffic Light Chemical Reaction

March 6th, 2010 Comments off

I am always up for some fun science and this video is a great find from BoingBoing.net.

I wish there was a little more science talk about the chemical reactions taking place in the video. She gives all the ingredients ( Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH), Glucose (C6H12O6) and water (H20) ) and the change between yellow and red seems to have a direct relation to the amount of oxygen in the solution, shown by the color change when pouring or introducing oxygen.

I guess one use of this chemical reaction could be an oxygen level indicator, but for now it is also just plain cool. (LAUGH)

Moving from Feedburner to local RSS feed

March 4th, 2010 Comments off

Please be aware that I am moving away from Feedburner over the next couple of weeks for all of my blogs and podcasts.

!

Since being purchased by Google, Feedburner has had regular, on-going issues with their service and little to no recourse for support when things so wrong. Moving to a locally controlled feed gives me much more control over the feed. I am using Blubrry Powerpress as the WordPress plugin to provide this new local feed.

Through a series of re-directs, I hope to migrate nearly all of my current subscribers over to this new local feed.

That said, if you don’t see updates from My Word with Douglas E. Welch over the next week or so, please resubscribe to the new feeds manually.

New My Word RSS Feeds

New RSS Feed: http://DouglasEWelch.com/blog/feed/ (All blog items)

New Podcast Feed: http://DouglasEWelch.com/blog/feed/podcast/ (Only contains podcast items)
