Blue Dog Beer Tavern in Sherman Oaks

This post over at FoodGPS, Blue Dog Beer Tavern and Boneyard Bistro, prompted me to write this short comment.

I have been enjoying regular visits to the Blue Dog Beer Tavern since it opened a few months ago. I live nearby and find myself taking lunch there whenever I want a special treat. I like the fish and chips a lot and I have also tried the burgers and sampled the mac and cheese with chilies.

I also like the chance to sample the out of the ordinary beers along with the food. It is slowly becoming my regular “local” either alone, with family or friends.

Silent Film Version of A Christmas Carol

While watching today's Holiday Celebration at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion I saw a group perform in front of a projection of an early silent film version of "A Christmas Carol."

A quick Google search turned up the entire film on YouTube and I have embedded it below. Enjoy!

What I am eReading...Eat, Drink and Be Merry!

LA Friday Coffee - Alex Bellanger - 27Image by dewelch via Flickr

Eat, Drink and Be Merry is a Los Angeles-based blog with an eclectic mix of foody posts. Everything from "The World's Largest Bowl of Pho" to the food places of Figueroa in Highland Park. This isn't necessarily a high volume blog, but an excellent addition to the other food blogs in my Google Reader stream.

CareerCamp Fall 2009 Planning - Getting Started!

Join this discussion on the Career Opportunities Community Site

After we completed CareerCamp Online 2009, I knew I wanted to do it again in about 6 months. While it has been a bit longer than that, I am feeling the itch once again. This time I am undecided whether this will be an online CareerCamp, a face-to-face conference here in Los Angeles or, more likely a combination of both.

This is where you come in. I am looking for your advice and comments on what CareerCamp Fall 2009 should be. What talk would you like to present? What would you most like to see? Who should we invite to speak or should it be entirely an unconference? Where should we hold the event? When?

Let's use this discussion to get started. If we need/want to move to a wiki or some other planning tool, we can do that as we start to gain momentum.

Add your comments, questions, advice, recommendations as part of this discussion.

Let's get started!

What I'm eReading...Eating LA

Tweedy's Family RestaurantImage by dewelch via Flickr

I am a bit of a foodie, even with my fussy eating habits, so I monitor a variety of food blogs for the LA area. Eating L.A. is a great one, offering coverage of everything from Food Trucks (which are multiplying by leas and bounds) to full restaurants.

Neat New Place: Cycleway Coffee, Hermon, CA

I had a new media consult in Montecito Heights today, so Rosanne rode along and we found her this great place to hang out in Hermon, a neighborhood just east of Eagle Rock, called Cycleway Coffee. Nice place with easy parking, comfy chairs and great coffee.

It is nice to see a bit of a resurgence in the independent coffee house scene in LA. While I must admit I visit Starbucks a lot, due to their ubiquity, a nice independent is definitely my first choice.

Google transit makes LA public transit easier

Now that the MTA has placed their info into Google Transit, getting around by public transit has gotten a lot easier here in LA.

Tomorrow, I need to head down near MacArthur Park. A quick check of Google Transit gives me all I need, including departure and arrival times and even walking directions at the beginning and end of my trip.

While I could have probably figured out this trip by myself, using printed schedules and maps from MTA's site, Google makes it simple and puts it into an interface I am already used to for driving directions.

If you live in LA, or are visiting, give Google Transit (and public transit) a try.

Douglas' Article in Podcast User Magazine

Podcast User Magazine pageMy profile of Goodnight Burbank producer, actor and writer Hayden Black, appears in this month's edition of Podcast User Magazine.

You can download the entire magazine as a PDF file from the link below.

"Born in Manchester, England, Hayden Black moved with his family to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the early 80s. Little did he know at the time, in days long before podcasting existed, that this would lead to a very popular video podcast that has boosted his entertainment career to new levels.

As he sat at Art’s Deli in Studio City, California, enjoying bagels and lox, Hayden beamed as he recounted his latest publicity success, a ‘Best of the Web’ mention in the print edition of TV Guide. Hayden’s light and proper English accent lends a sense of elegance to his speech, despite his California casual attire." (Continues)
