A Gardener’s Notebook is happy to once again partner with Monrovia Plants as part of their “Embrace Your Space” program.
This was an unexpected purchase, but you can never really be sure what you will pick up once you start walking around the nursery. Plants catch your eye that were entirely unknown to you before.I had heard of Heliotrope before, but had no further familiarity with it. My wife was taken with the leave shape and structure and the small, yet beautiful flowers. I didn’t notice the amazing fragrance until I got up close with the plant when I was taking it to the checkout. Wow! This will be an amazingly fragrant plant to add to the garden.
I am thinking that this heliotrope will go into an existing rose bed that needs some retrofitting. The sunlight available in that bed doesn’t really provide the correct growing environment for roses anymore. One small trees are now towering Ash canopies over 40 feet tall. Still, there is some sun there, so I am hoping this will provide a little green beneath the roses and a bit of a “dress up” for the bed as a whole.
