Event: Child Educational Center Announces 22nd Annual Benefit and Auction – June 18, 2011

My friend, Dawn Comer-Jefferson, who writes the parenting blog, Three Ring Circus, sent along this notice about an upcoming event. Dawn co-wrote and edited a book of the same title with my wife, Rosanne Welch, as few years ago.

Child Educational Center Announces 22nd Annual Benefit and Auction

The Child Educational Center (CEC) will host its 22nd Annual Benefit and Auction, themed Starry Night, on Saturday, June 18th from 6:30 to 10:00pm at the Avery House on the Caltech campus, 293 S. Holliston, Pasadena. All proceeds from the evening directly benefit the children of the CEC, a JPL and Caltech affiliated non-profit organization providing high-quality childcare and educational outreach services since 1979.

Starry night

Held under the stars in the beautiful and historic Mediterranean courtyard at the Avery House, the benefit will feature memorable wines from around the world chosen by Noir Food & Wine, and microbrews served with a light dinner from The Spot. The evening’s entertainment will include a jazz performance by The Chad Edwards Quartet, featuring singer Maria de la Vega of the Wayward Five as well as star-gazing led by astronomers who will bring the night sky to life – clouds permitting, of course. The highlight of the night will be a live and silent auction with a dazzling array of luxurious and practical items. There will also be a $5 opportunity drawing for a chance to win an iPad 2, iPod Touch or iPod Nano.

Benefit tickets are $85, and $100 at the door.  Tickets are available at the CEC office or online at Annual Benefit Tickets. For more information, contact Birthe Landerer at (818) 354-3418, birthe@caltech.edu, or visit www.ceconline.org.

The Child Educational Center, a nationally accredited non-profit organization, provides early care and education with a pioneering focus on outdoor learning at six sites in the Foothill communities. The CEC offers full-day programs for children six weeks to five years old, as well as after-school care and Summer Camps for children in grades K-6. More than 750 children and families benefit from the caring and stimulating learning environments provided by the CEC each year. Through its consulting and outreach services, the organization also transforms the way early education programs serve children across the state of California.
