Brunfelsia lactea (Lady of the night), Sherman Library and Gardens, Corona del Mar, California [Photography]

The image is a close-up photograph of several white and yellow brunsfelsia flowers against a dark green background. The flowers are clustered together and appear to be growing from a central stem. Each flower has a trumpet-like shape with slightly ruffled edges. The background consists of dense foliage, creating a blurred and textured backdrop. The overall composition emphasizes the delicate details of the flowers and their contrast with the dark background.

I have always loved these plants and their flowers that change color but I had never noticed what a nice scent they have, too. Perhaps it is just this specific variety. They aren’t near the areas we typically walk in the garden, so perhaps I hadn’t been in close contact with them enough to notice.

Part of the nightshade family but oh so pretty. The colors of the flowers change over time.

Brunfelsia (Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow)

More blooms this week with these brunfelsia. These were on the property when we bought it 23 years ago and I loved them so much I planted 2 more last year in a different area.

Each bloom progresses from blue to purple to white as it ages, giving rise to its common name.

I planted these shrubs back in November 2016 and now they are flowering fully for the first time. The flowers change from purple to lavender to white over the course of a few days.

These lovely plants are blooming like crazy after our rains. The common name comes from their flowers which change colors over the course of a few days — from blue to purple to white. I recently planted 2 more of these is a bare area of the garden.
