One of the most striking things I have seen over the last 10 years or so, is the willingness, the ability of people to even actively degrade and debase themselves in public in an attempt to reach celebrity. How many people watch Survivor? How many people watch Wipeout? How many people watch “insert favorite reality show here”? Those people have decided that nothing is more important than being a celebrity. They may tell you “a hundred ways to Sunday” that it is something else. That’s what they’ve decided. Nothing — not my ethics, not my morals, not my self-worth, my self-respect, is worth the chance — not even getting it — the chance of celebrity. I want to — I want to reinforce in you and I hope you already somewhat feel this way, how disturbing that truly is — and the damage it can cause. — not only to you and not only to them, but to everyone around them. Because everyone around them simply becomes a pawn in that game. Their family. Their peers. Their co-workers, don’t matter. “That’s what I’m after! Get out of my way!”
