Love letters can reveal the true personality

of the individual that puts pen to paper.

Love letters can bridge time and place.

And they come in many different forms.

Sometimes a love letter offers the love of a friend

and reaches across desolation

to bring the recipient back to the world of the hopeful.

Sometimes the loss a letter conveys is unexpected.

A few words can bring the reality of home

across an ocean

to a distant battlefield.

The love can be written between the lines.

Some love letters are the trumpets that herald

the return of their author.

These letters leap across time and miles

to escort in the future.

Do something different this Valentine’s Day,

reach across the distance

with a love letter written in your hand,

speaking your words.

Here is the info from the WGA web site…

“TOOT YOUR OWN HORN: SELF-PROMOTION IN THE DIGITAL AGE”

In these challenging times, it is imperative that writers take control of their own careers. Be proactive, “do it yourself,” especially regarding publicity and marketing. Technology has swiftly changed, providing writers with new avenues to promote themselves and their work. Have you tapped in?

A DIY panel features publicist Henri Bollinger, president of the Entertainment Publicists Professional Society, discussing personal publicity vs. when to bring on a “professional”; screen and TV writer/author/award-winning columnist W. Bruce Cameron (8 Simple Rules, A Dog’s Purpose); Zoanne Clack (Executive Producer – “Grey’s Anatomy” and former Writers’ Program student), Gregg Kilday (film editor at The Hollywood Reporter); psychotherapist Rebecca Roy (TheIndustryTherapist.com) to broach writers’ resistance to self-promotion; and independent new media consultant Douglas Welch (also a Writers’ Program instructor) addressing new media and social marketing platforms.

Panel followed by smaller hands-on breakout sessions. Moderated by Bill Taub.

Douglas E. Welch from A Gardener’s Notebook visits Tomatomania 2011 in Encino, California. He interviews Scott Daigre, organizer of Tomoatomania at a dozen locations across the country and chats with a few of the tomato buyers, many who come back year after year. Tomatomania hosts over 250 varieties for sale at each location from beefsteak, to plum, to cherry tomotoes and everything in-between.

Despite grey skies in usually sunny Encino, seedings were flying off the lot by the cartload. All ages were represented from long-time growers to kids eager to help Mom and Dad select just the right plants.

Making the Case for Using Media for e-Learning

The physical and creative aspects of media are easier than ever before, but sometimes there are those people that must be sold on the usefulness of using media for e-Learning. It always pays to ask “Why?” about any use of technology, and New Media is no exception.

Participants in this session will learn the many reasons why companies and individuals should be using media. The intimacy, ease of delivery, and information richness of New Media puts it far above the all other methods. When used in combination with text and graphics, audio and video enhance learning in a variety of ways. This session will give you the “ammunition” to sell the use of media to your management.

In this session, you will learn:

Why New Media and why now?
How audio and video enhance the learning experience
How you can “sell” New Media to your management
How your learners can best be served by delivering information via media

Making the Case for Using Media for e-Learning

The physical and creative aspects of media are easier than ever before, but sometimes there are those people that must be sold on the usefulness of using media for e-Learning. It always pays to ask “Why?” about any use of technology, and New Media is no exception.

Participants in this session will learn the many reasons why companies and individuals should be using media. The intimacy, ease of delivery, and information richness of New Media puts it far above the all other methods. When used in combination with text and graphics, audio and video enhance learning in a variety of ways. This session will give you the “ammunition” to sell the use of media to your managment.

In this session, you will learn:

Why New Media and why now?
How audio and video enhance the learning experience
How you can “sell” New Media to your management
How your learners can best be served by delivering information via media

Discuss this column and podcast on the Career-Op Community Site

I presented this talk to Tuesdays with Transitioners, a local group dedicated to helping workers recover from layoff and make the move to a new career. All of my prescriptions use new media in some fashion, so I thought this video would be a good inclusion for Careers in New Media.

Visit the Tuesdays with Transitioners site for more information on this great group.
