Douglas E. Welch (http://douglasewelch.com) presents to the class Career Development – Theories and Techniques at Pepperdine Graduate School of Education & Psychology taught by fellow CareerCamp Co-Chair, Danielle Gruen

The two biggest challenges are deciding what you want to do as a career and then building the career you deserve once you decide.

I discuss the Career Compass method of discovering your career wants, needs and desires and then using various social media tools to show people “What you do and how well you do it”

Transcript:

Because I do record things and you should too, by the way, you should make a point of capturing the stuff your creating, because too often we create content — we write stuff own, we write a paper for this purpose, but then it kind of goes into the drawer and never gets seen again — no, no, no. There are other people who want to see that, too. You people are here tonight to hear me talk, ok, to have your class, whatever. Potentially, online, there’s going to be 20, 30, 50, 100 people who might want to see this talk online. Why wouldn’t I capture that and share it with them? It does not hurt me in any way. It can only help me. It will take a little while to slurp this into my computer and pump it back out to YouTube, but that’s just letting the machine crank in the corner. It’s not active time I have to spend doing it. Why wouldn’t I do it? And that is a good phrase that comes up “Why wouldn’t I?” If I could have my own radio station — like a podcast is, why wouldn’t I do it. If I could have my own TV station, why wouldn’t I have a YouTube channel? People were dying to to have their words on radio and television for years. Now we can. We can have audiences of millions of people out there without much effort. Why wouldn’t you do it?
