Douglas E. Welch (http://douglasewelch.com) presents to the class Career Development – Theories and Techniques at Pepperdine Graduate School of Education & Psychology taught by fellow CareerCamp Co-Chair, Danielle Gruen

The two biggest challenges are deciding what you want to do as a career and then building the career you deserve once you decide.

I discuss the Career Compass method of discovering your career wants, needs and desires and then using various social media tools to show people “What you do and how well you do it”

Transcript:

You start to see collections of things and I’ll even even draw another little…how many of you, I’m sure you all have, remember Venn Diagrams. Right? Venn Diagrams. Intersections. Unions. Right? Well, guess what, if you take your interests in your life and you start drawing little bubbles, so we’ve got gardening here. We have, let’s say, New Media — this is podcasting, YouTube, Live streaming, all of that other stuff that I do. You have careers over here. You have writing and you have teaching here. You start drawing little bubbles and you start to see that there’s overlap between them. The thing that has amazed me over the last few years is how much my career work and my new media work has started to combine and that’s really going to become apparent in the next topic of this. Those issues between CareerCamp and me recording my talks and everything else have really started to mesh together and you can start to see, right here, that’s where those things are bumping up against each other and I can tell you, the greatest things happen in your life where these things touch. It is the friction of all the interests in your lives that really generate the magic in your life.
