What I’m Reading: The Second Coming of the KKK – 66 in a series – “…whippings, tar-and-featherings, and lynchings.”

October 28th, 2019

“In contrast, Oklahoma, Indiana, Kansas, and southern Illinois—locations that were as much southern as northern—experienced a great deal of actual Klan violence: whippings, tar-and-featherings, and lynchings. In Oklahoma, Klan-provoked violence became so widespread—with a reported “one flogging for every night of the year”—that the governor placed parts of the state under martial law; Klan efforts got him impeached in 1923.39”
