As a tech geek/food geek, what better thing to do than create an unboxing video for the amazing KitchenAid mixer I won at the Techmunch Food Blogger Conference.
Big thanks to Bakespace.com and KitchenAid for providing the opportunity to win such great appliances. Woot!
Here are some chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies I made with the new mixer tonight.
Thick and Fluffy Pumpkin Pancakes – September 25, 2011 – Looks like another recipe to try in my pancake-a-palooza I have been having lately (LAUGH)
Gardening Books: The one-minute review solution – September 25, 2011 – Some nice reviews and great recommendations for garden books. The book, “Planting the Dry Shade Garden” especially interests me.
Pumpkin Dump Cake – September 23, 2011 – Oh my, why haven’t I heard of this before. Maybe because I would be even bigger than I am already. Still, that said, I think I might make this to share with friends sometime, just to try it out. (Wink)
Forward or back? – September 22, 2011 – I wish more people realized that you can’t turn back the clock. Time only progresses forward and the past is rarely a rosy as we think it was.
Science and the Island Fox – September 21, 2011 – A close friend of mine is a board member and educator for Friends of the Island Fox. Check out her Science Day event in Santa Barbara
At the Techmunch food blogger conference on Friday, Bakespace.com announced their new cookbook app for the Apple iPad — Cookbook Cafe!
Cookbook Cafe allows anyone to produce a personal, organizational or fund-raising cookbook and deliver it directly via the iPad. I was asked to create one of the first cookbooks for the app and it is now available in the store (Don’t worry, it’s FREE right now!)
Sharing Christmas with Friends includes some of my cookie recipes, but also the recipe for my Super Secret Christmas Chili!
If you ever wanted this recipe, this might be the easiest way to get it.
Please check out the app on your iPad and give it a review and rating in the iTunes store. This will help spread the word!
Thanks!
Here are some screenshots of my cookbook in the iPad App. Thanks to Ric of his help in grabbing these!
This started to roll out here in the US yesterday, but I see today that the LA Public Library now has the ability to check out Kindle format books via its online eBook Catalog.
Even if you don’t have a Kindle, you can download free software to read Kindle books on almost any device including Windows and Mac computers, iPhone, iPod Touch and Android device. I have “checked out” several eBooks via the existing methods, but I think this Kindle method will open up the number of titles available and also make them easier to download and read.
Oct. 1, 2011 the Santa Barbara Zoo will be hosting a Science Day event. Friends of the Island Fox will be one of many community presenters with family-friendly science-based activities. The goal is to offer teachers a variety of science activities that can be replicated in the classroom.
For more information see the website www.islandfox.org. Teachers and their families can get into the Zoo free with preregistration.
I have never been much of a pancake fan before, but lately I have been having cravings for them. I like my pancakes light and fluffy, so I went looking for a recipe with just those qualities. I found one (among many) over on Allrecipes.com — Fluffy Pancakes.
This photo is an example of a fresh batch just off the cast iron griddle that always sits atop our stove — perfect for just such a meal. If you have a hankering for pancakes, this recipe works very well. It only makes about 6 average-sized pancakes, but the recipes is easily doubled or tripled if you want to make a larger batch. I do add a bit more milk than the recipe calls for, just to make them a little bit lighter.
A collection of interesting items I found in my daily reading.
Maple Pumpkin Fudge – September 19, 2011 – More recipes to possibly use at this year’s annual cookie party. I like maple and pumpkin so I think at least one batch of this is in order.
Learn the Career Path of a Lawyer – September 16, 2011 – This is a great ‘Real World Example” for a law career. I love interviews like this as I think it helps explain to new careerists just what a particular might be like.
Sweet & Salty Caramel Snack Mix – September 16, 2011 – This might find a place at my annual Christmas Cookie Party. Different, but familiar to most people, I think.
Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte Syrup – September 15, 2011 – Ok, I admit it, I am a sucker for these dressed up coffee drinks. The calories keep me from buying them too often, though — and the cost. Making the pumpkin syrup could be the answer to one of these questions, though.
YouTube Introduces Video Editing Feature – September 15, 2011 – Interesting to say the least. It is amazing how technology once thought magical can be condensed down to working in a web browser.
Peach and Bourbon Wonderfulness – September 14, 2011 – This sounds delightful and a personification of southern hospitality.
Google Flight Search with Google Maps – September 14, 2011 – Let’s see what Google can add to the airline search market. I, for one, would like some improvements in the airline industry first, but anything that can help me book my flights is appreciated.
If This Then That recipes to improve your social media use – September 14, 2011 – Think of it like a macro language for your social media use. Be careful, as certain actions could quickly annoy your friends and followers, but some of the personal actions could be quite useful, especially for archiving online data locally or on another service.
