A slow cooker, or crock pot, has been part of my “kitchen” since I went away to college in 1982. My older sister made sure I had one in my kit as I headed off to school. In fact, I still use that same slow cooker today. I keep waiting for it to finally fail, but it continues to churn out chili, soups, pork shoulder and a host of other recipes.
Regardless of where you are in your life, a slow cooker allows you to create great meals while you are off at class, at work or at play. You can also make extra for the freezer — another great way to make life a little bit easier.
Most of the new slow cookers are fitted out with LCD displays and programmable settings, where mine has only 3 settings – off, low and high. Still, I have no desire to throw over my old girl for a shiny new model. (LAUGH)
