Garden Leaves: Magnolia grandiflora
Spotted in a neighbor’s yard during our evening walk. Even the leaves of this tree are large and dramatic, just like its flowers.
Often we focus on the flowers of our garden plants while ignoring the leaves that provide then background and structure for those blooms to shine. Let’s give the leaves their due in the next few photos.

Magnolia liliiflora in my sister’s Ohio garden
During a recent visit back to Ohio I caught the end of the Spring bloom in my sister’s garden.
She inherited this old garden from the original owners of the home. It had declined a bit with lots of brambles and saplings but she is quickly restoring it. I’ll have to visit earlier in the year sometime to see the full extent of all its blooming trees.
