“In our latest video we trekked out into the beautiful farmland outside Sebastopol, California to visit California Carnivores, North America’s largest carnivorous plant nursery. We spoke with founder Peter D’Amato about his personal history with these hungry plants, their cultural significance and what it takes to raise up fantastical plants from seed. Taking in the active plant life, we watched Venus Flytraps chowing down and a got a peak inside the stomach of an American Pitcher Plant.

In this tip, Douglas shows the difference between seed leaves and true leaves on his seedlings. Standard advice is to thin or re-pot your seedlings once they develop their first set of true leaves.

TV/Web: Beechgrove Garden from BBC Scotland

Here is another great gardening show from the UK, Beechgrove Garden.

Beechgrove Garden is basically the Gardener’s World for Scotland. If you have similar climate and planting conditions, there could be some very useful information here for you, even if you aren’t in the UK. Unlike Gardener’s World, there are a few video clips here and “Fact Sheets” in PDF format that you can download directly from their web site.

I love seeing gardening shows from other parts of the world. I even caught one from BBC Cmyru (Wales) done entirely in Welsh, with English subtitles. That was a mind bender. (LAUGH)

UK: A new season of Gardener’s World begins

Tomatomania, the annual tomato seedling extravaganza has just announced it’s dates for 2012. It looks like they have added a few new locations, too.

Each Tomatomania has hundreds of different varieties of tomatoes ready to take home to your own garden and kick start your Summer growing.

Here is a video I shot last year with Tomatomania founder, Scott Daigre.

UK: A new season of Gardener’s World begins

For those of you in the UK, a new series of Gardener’s World, BBC’s venerable gardening series. While the online video is only viewable in the UK, US readers might find other ways of getting this content. I find that the climate of the UK is similar enough to the US and other areas that the show is useful, informative and entertaining. You can access other online blog and web content on their site.

As much as I like the show, I am also looking for additional, podcast or webcast gardening shows from the UK and other places in Europe. I love seeing how others get along in their gardeners, no matter where they might be. If you have have recommendations of on-going shows or online videos, please pass them along here in the comments so that everyone might benefit from your finds.
