Winter Grass and Trees, Getty Center, Los Angeles, California [Photography]

Posted on February 23, 2026 by Douglas E. Welch

A low-angle, vertical photograph focuses on a dense field of variegated ornamental grass with long, slender blades of green and cream. The grass fills the lower two-thirds of the frame, reaching upward toward a sloping hillside. In the background, three tall, leafless trees with intricate, sprawling branches stand against a pale, clear blue sky. The lighting is bright and natural, casting soft shadows through the grass and highlighting the stark, sculptural forms of the winter trees.
